Admissions Information

Emergency Placement

In an effort to better serve localities throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia , Elk Hill is now accepting emergency placements. If you have youth who are in need of immediate placement and could benefit from one of Elk Hill's programs, please contact our Admissions Coordinator, Malinda Tiffany for further information at (804) 457-4866, extension 339. Email: mtiffany@elkhill.org.

 

Upon receipt of referral documentation, a response will be provided within 24 hours regarding the youth's appropriateness for placement. We are currently accepting referrals for each of our programs – Elk Hill Farm (Medicaid Level A with on-campus ED/LD certified school), Elk Hill – Northside (Medicaid Level A), Elk Hill – Charlottesville (Medicaid Level A), and Elk Hill – Spring Garden (Medicaid Level A girls program). We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Admission Criteria (residential only)

It is preferred that applicants possess the following traits, abilities, and resources:

 

  • Has Placing Agency/Family support who are involved and willing to participate
  • Is motivated in school and we are able to meet their Educational needs
  • Understands and supports Discharge/Permanency Plans
  • Minimal Substance Abuse issues (i.e., tobacco, marijuana, alcohol)
  • Minimal History/Incidents of Physical Aggression
  • If 'stepping down' from a more Intensive/Restrictive Placement, should be leaving as a Successful Completion from that program.
  • Physically able and willing to participate in Fitness Responsibilities and Adventure Challenge Requirements
  • Compliant with Prescribed Medications and/or willing to participate in as well as follow any recommendations of Medication and Physical Evaluations
  • Amenable to regularly participate in group/individual Counseling Services and/or other therapeutic services offered
  • Verbally expresses and exemplifies through actions a motivation to make positive change in life
  • Have minimal or no history of involvement in gang activities/affiliations.
  • Express and exhibit a willingness to participate in Community Service activities.

Admission Reasons for Rejection (residential only)

 

Applicants will NOT be considered for admission for the following issues:

  

  • History of Fire Setting
  • History of Animal Cruelty
  • Untreated Sexual offender or incident of Inappropriate Sexually Acting Out (within past 6 months)
  • Long History of AWOL/Runaway behavior
  • Too Severe Psychiatrically/Actively Psychotic
  • Actively suicidal or homicidal
  • FSIQ Score below 70
  • Physical Disability
  • Noncompliant during pre-placement visit or refused to stay on campus after tour for pre-placement visit
  • Age – younger than 11 years old or older than 18 years
  • Needs specialized treatment first (i.e. substance abuse)
  • Has obtained their GED or High School Diploma
  • Is a known active gang member who endorses the gang mentality and lifestyle.
